Market structure
Choppy market
Price moves without a clear trend or clear boundaries, and the sensible action is to skip it.
Widely taught. The Exchange can test it on public price history and will say what it finds.
The rule to skip unclear markets is common, and the Exchange can test whether the trader's own results are worse in unclear conditions.
What it is
The market is choppy when swings are small and overlapping, the boundaries cannot be drawn with confidence, and each move reverses before it goes anywhere.
What it suggests
When the structure cannot be described, a plan that depends on structure has nothing to work with. A plan can name this state as a reason to stand aside.
How to check it
Zoom out one timeframe. If a trend or a range is still not visible, write down that the market is choppy and wait.
Common mistakes
- Trading choppy conditions to avoid missing something.
